Washington, D.C., native, Stephanie Carre, got her start in the restaurant industry early – as a high school student she progressed through jobs at several fast-paced, high volume restaurants, before setting her sights on the world of fine dining. By the time she arrived at the Occidental Grill & Seafood, she knew beyond a doubt that Food & Beverage was her calling, where hard work and attention to detail is balanced with pure enjoyment.
Prior to leading the Occidental Grill & Seafood as the restaurant’s General Manager, Carre made her mark at fine dining destinations across the city. From 2941 to Butterfield 9, she learned the delicate art of stewarding, banquets and service to the highest standard. When she joined the Occidental Grill & Seafood as the banquet captain in 2006, Carre led her staff with energy, wisdom, and grace. When the position of General Manager became available in the fall of 2018, Carre was ready to step up.
As the General Manager of one of the most celebrated fine dining institutions – a hub for dignitaries, celebrities, and political icons in town – Carre oversees all aspects of the guest experience with a sense ease and welcoming warmth. “We take great pride in exceeding expectations, even among loyal, longtime guests,” she shares. “This means maintaining our standards and honoring the traditions of the restaurant, but at the same time, constantly innovating.” Carre credits its devoted, local following and steady stream of new guests not only to the impressive cuisine, lively atmosphere, handcrafted cocktails, and extensive wine list, but also to the strong sense of camaraderie felt amongst the close-knit team. “We are a family here. Many of us have been here for many years and hold the restaurant near to our heart,” says Carre, fondly.
