We had a great time at the Occidental for my girlfriend\'s birthday. The service was excellent thanks to Rosa! The staff, including management, was friendly and professional. And the photos of influential persons that have dined in the historic establishment is a good touch.\r\n\r\nMy girlfriend had the sirloin and I had the rack of lamb. Both were cooked perfectly and had excellent presentation. Kudos to the chef for putting together an inviting menu with generous portions.\r\n\r\nOriginally we thought this would be a one time visit since it can be an expensive evening. But we quickly agreed that it was worth every penny and plan to return in the spring so we can sit on the patio. Who knows, maybe we can have our wedding reception there!

My best friend and I accidentally stumbled upon the Occidental several years ago after a visit to the White House. We sat outside and had a wonderful lunch. Now here it is, several years later, and I can still taste the Maine Lobster Roll. It was by far, the most delicious sandwhich I have ever tasted. My taste buds are still thanking you for the divine eating experience. We will visit again, should we make our way back to D.C.

I live in Montreal and was visiting DC last week. My husband and I stopped for lunch at your establishment. It was fantastick. The most impressive part of the meal for me was the chocolate soufflé. I felt that I had died and gone to heaven when I tasted that creamy, chocolatey delicacy!
Now, that I am back in Montreal, I feel that I may die if I don't get your recipe for the chocolate soufflé so that I can try and reproduce the pleasure in my own home. Would you PLEASE part with it?
Thank you so much,
Phoebe Kaplan, MD

My out of town guest told me to pick a really nice restaurant in DC for him to take me to dinner to while he was here and the first place that came to mind was Occidental. Its entrance and outdoor area is so beautiful and elegant that when you arrive you feel like Cinderella stepping out of the carriage. Once inside the atmosphere is warm and historic and it is entertaining to try to identify all the different statesmen lining the walls. Each course is a work of art and every bite bursts with the flavor of each ingredient. When walking out you can see DC landmarks illuminated which reminds you once again that you are in the greatest city in the world.

The is an upscale restaurant frequented by the in-crowd and politicians. The food gets high marks as does the service. Wine menu is very good.

Went here for lunch since I work closeby. I had the Chopped Salad with Shrimp and it was truly divine. The shrimp was out of this world and the flavors of the corn and chickpeas mixed with the dijon-red wine vinaigrette were unbelievable. Sat outside and it was a beautiful day so that was a special treat. Service was great, will absolutely be back! :)

Went here on a Saturday night during restaurant week and the service and food was certainly to a level where I would go back again for a full meal. I would say overall the selections on the menu are probably slightly more expensive than the Tabard Inn. The atmosphere is different than the Tabard though and I do like the fact the Occidental has booths and feels like a more modern restaurant even though the decor makes you feel like it could be the 60's.
The food was excellent though and a glance at the normal menu indicated there were numerous starters that I would be interested in trying. The entrees are certainly more straight shooting than the Tabard tends to be with some exceptions (a Venison steak for example).
My gin and tonic was certainly strong. Bread served prior to the meal was very good. Overall a very enjoyable experience and I plan to go back next time I have company in town.

Dinner here is a taste bud orgy. I usually don't risk a mushroom bisque, but this one danced in my mouth like Kevin Bacon in Footloose. It's neat to look at the pictures on the wall, but overall, I would go simply for the sensuous food and impeccable service.
Expensive, but worth it when you know that you'll get nothing but a fantastic meal. They pour their drinks a little heavy, so it's my kind of place. I sat next to a group of very enthusiastic group, where a man kept insisting that they should accept the contract from North Korea.
The crab cakes are very nice, but I wish it came with a little more sauce. I like sauce on my cakes. Dessert was great, distinctive flavors with zip to spare.
